Warning on UK jobs from Cowie wood panel factory

The Norbord factory in Cowie has issued a stark warning that many hundreds of jobs in Stirlingshire could be in jeopardy due to the development of large-scale wood fired energy plants.

Two independent reports commissioned by the Wood Panel Industries Federation (WPIF) have indicated that 8700 UK jobs could be under threat due to the growth of biomass plants.

And the research suggests Scotland would be disproportionately affected as three of the UK's seven wood panel plants are located there - ncluding the Cowie plant which employs 300 people.
